Shock Scenario - 6 week old feeding poorly
History
You agree to meet HF and his parents in the ER early one
evening because he seems to be getting sicker. He has a several week history
of poor feeding. In further questioning his parents state that he has always
been a slow feeder. He seems to tucker out while eating but remains hungry.
You have seen him on one other occasion, and note that he has gained only
a few ounces since his two week well child check.
Prenatal history is unremarkable. This is the second child
of a couple in their early thirties. Mom was healthy throughout the pregnancy.
There were no infections and the baby had no difficulties surrounding the
delivery.
