Bio Statement

Dr. Petryk is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and the Director of the Comprehensive Pediatric Bone Health Program.  She attended medical school in Wroclaw, Poland and Dundee, U.K., completed her Pediatric Residency at Miami Children's Hospital, and Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship at Duke University.  She joined the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology in 1999.  Dr. Petryk provides clinical care in general pediatric endocrinology, specializing in childhood bone diseases and endocrine late effects in survivors of childhood cancer and recipients of bone marrow transplantation.

Research Interests

Dr. Petryk's research interest is in bone disorders in children, with special emphasis on early interventions to attain adequate bone density during childhood and adolescence, preventive and treatment strategies for children at risk for bone fragility due to osteoporosis, bone loss after cancer treatment, bone marrow transplantation, chronic diseases (gastrointestinal, liver, renal, rheumatic, long term use of glucocorticoids), osteogenesis imperfecta, rickets and other disorders.  Her research also focuses on the development of diagnostic and monitoring tools to improve therapeutic outcomes.
