Sing Sing Way Receives Young Investigator Award

Dr. Sing Sing Way is the 2012 recipient of the University of Minnesota School Young Investigator Award.  This award is given annually to a young faculty member in a Basic Science or a Clinical Department who has already established him/herself as an outstanding researcher, with demonstration of great potential for a successful career as an independent investigator in an area of biomedical, behavioral, clinical, or medical research.  Please join in congratulating Dr. Way on this outstanding honor!

Emily Borman-Shoap Named Pediatric Residency Program Director

Dr. Emily Borman-Shoap has been offered and accepted the role of Pediatric Residency Program Director.  Dr. Borman-Shoap graduated fom Washington University School of Medicine, and completed her residency and chief residency at the University of Minnesota.  She has worked for the past 5 years as Associate Residency Program Director, and knows the program well.  Please join in welcoming Dr. Borman-Shoap to this new role!

John Andrews Named Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education

John Andrews, MD, has accepted the appointment of Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education.  Dr. Andrews has served as interim Associate Dean since February.  Dr. Andrews was previously the Associate Head for Education and Director of the Pediatric residency program.  He brings a wealth of knowledge that makes him uniquely positioned to lead the Graduate Medical Education programs in the future.  Please join Dean Aaron Friedman in welcoming Dr. Andrews to this new role.

Margaret (Peg) Semrud-Clikeman, PhD, to join Department of Pediatrics

Margaret (Peg) Semrud-Clikeman, PhD, will be joining the Department of Pediatrics at the end of the year as the Director of the Division of Behavioral Neuroscience.  She has a broad range of scholarly work and is currently evaluating the neurocognitive and neuroanatomical correlates of Autism Spectrum Disorders as well as developing new intervention methods.  She has an outstanding record as an educator and mentor, and the Department of Pediatrics is pleased to welcome her!

Pediatric Researcher Awared $3.5 Million to Study Rare Pediatric Tumors

University of Minnesota pediatric cancer epidemiologist Jenny Poynter, PhD, MPH, has earned a 5-year $3.5 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to study pediatric germ cell tumors.

Dr. Emily Borman-Shoap Assumes Role as Medical Director for Newborn Care

Dr. Emily Borman-Shoap has accepted the position of Medical Director for Newborn Care for the University of Minnesota Amplatz Children's Hospital effective June 1, 2011.  Dr. Borman-Shoap currently serves as Associate Program Director for the Pediatric Residency Program, and will remain in this role.  On behalf of Fairview Medical Staff Services, please join in welcoming Dr. Borman-Shoap to this new position!
