Cynthia Howard, M.D.

Dr. Cynthia Howard Cindy Howard, M.D., MPHTM is Division Chief for Academic General Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota and Director of the International Adoption Medicine Program, as well as Associate Director for Global Pediatrics.

Dr. Howard received her M.D. at the University of North Carolina and completed her pediatric internship and residency at the University of Alabama Children's Hospital. She completed her pediatric infectious disease fellowship and Master's of Public Health in Tropical Medicine at Tulane University. Before joining the faculty at the University of Minnesota, Dr. Howard practiced in Germany, Nigeria, Uganda and inner-city Baltimore. She developed and coordinated an educational exchange program between the departments of pediatrics at the University of Maryland and Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda.

Dr. Howard's areas of interest include developing and measuring the effectiveness of global health curriculum; training/mentoring residents and medical students to address global child health challenges (particularly infectious diseases, protein energy malnutrition and medical inequity), and the medical care of immigrant, refugee and internationally adopted children. Her two daughters are from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
