Maria Kroupina, Ph.D.

Dr. Maria Kroupina After graduating from Moscow State University in Russia, Maria Kroupina worked for over two years with special needs children and their families in one of the centers in Moscow.  She completed her Ph.D. program at the Institute of Child Development at the University of Minnesota.  The focus of her dissertation research project was the assessment of cognitive and communication skills of post-institutionalized children.

Maria's main interest is in the early assessment of high-risk children.  She is currently the Clinical Research Coordinator for the International Adoption Clinic and heads a research program that focuses on determining sensitive tools for initial developmental assessment of internationally adopted children.  The overarching goal of this project is to help identify children who will particularly benefit from early intervention.
