Maria Kroupina, Ph.D.
After graduating from Moscow State University in Russia, Maria Kroupina worked for two years with children and their families in Moscow in one of the centers for children with special needs. She completed her Ph.D. at the Institute of Child Development at the University of Minnesota. The focus of her dissertation was the assessment of cognitive and communication skills of post-institutionalized children.
Dr. Kroupina's main research interest is early assessment of children who experienced early adversity. She is currently the Clinical Research Director for the International Adoption Medicine Program, heading a research program that focuses on determining sensitive tools for initial developmental assessment of internationally adopted children. The overarching goal of this project is to help identify children who will particularly benefit from early intervention.
Dr. Kroupina, a clinical child psychologist, sees patients in clinic at 12 and 24 months post-adoption, screening for cognitive and social-emotional development.
